In 2005, Astellas Pharma Ges.m.b.H. was founded after the merger of Fujisawa Ges.m.b.H.—formerly known as Klinge Pharma—with Yamanouchi.
With its establishment, the company added Urology to its other key areas of therapeutic focus, which include Transplantation, Dermatology, Anti-infectives, Pneumology, and Pain Management.
2008 proved to be an important year for Astellas Pharma Ges.m.b.H. due to the launch of a new once-daily formulation of our anti-rejection drug. Evidence indicates that the convenient, once-daily dosage of this new formulation will increase patient compliance—a crucial issue for transplant patients. 2008 also proved to be a landmark year for Astellas Pharma Ges.m.b.H. as it marked the creation of a local Research & Development organisation—an important advance that will further strengthen the partnership we hold with our shareholders. This exciting development is also playing an essential role in our achievement of the goals set forth by VISION 2015.
Currently we continue to expand our product pipeline with the launch of a new anti-fungal treatment, which will enable the company to enter the hospital marketplace. In order to penetrate this promising new sector, we have concentrated the efforts of both our Marketing and Sales organisations on achieving and even surpassing our strategic objectives for this product.
